About town
Cracow (variant eng. spelling: Krakow) as a very historical town has been one of the leading scientific and artistic centres of the country. At the turn of the century it was the national capital of Poland and residence of Polish Kings.
The old town has a few architecture styles, the dominating is Renaissance then are Baroque and Gothic.
The most notable city's buildings are:
Royal Castle on Wawel Hill including Wawel's Cathedral.
Old town (with medieval scheme of town) including The Gothic St. Mary's Church (from 14th century), Market Square (the biggest in Europe, 200 meters wide-spread), Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), Florian Gate, Barbakan and many more churches, palaces and mansions.
Kazimierz, old jewish province with synagogue: Izaaka, Remuh, Tempel, Wysoka and others.
Jagiellonian Univeristy (founded in 14th century) the oldest university in Poland and second in Europe.
